Since the early 2000s, it’s been common to see a new film come through that begins with “Tyler Perry’s…” Whether it’s a Madea comedy or a melodramatic feature, that name seems to guarantee a blockbuster hit. Now, Perry is teaming up with Amazon Studios to tell his own story in a documentary titled Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story.
Directed by Gelila Bekele and Armani Ortiz, the new documentary goes straight to the multi-hyphenate source to get the story of his childhood and his trailblazing career. In a new trailer, Perry doesn’t shy away from discussing the abuse he faced as a child that shaped the man he is today, alongside the everlasting support of his mother, Maxine.
The trailer promises an unvarnished look behind-the-scenes of the media mogul as the filmmakers follow him in his current day-to-day while unpacking the obstacles he faced from an industry that never wanted him.
