Annette Bening Takes to the Seas in “NYAD” Featurette

Feats of athleticism aren’t always to be found in young athletes playing organized sports. In NYAD, Annette Bening and Jodie Foster tell the true story of Diana Nyad, a marathon swimmer turned sports journalist determined to reclaim her dream of completing a 110 mile swim from Cuba to Florida at the age of 60.

In a new featurette, Bening, Foster, and directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin discuss the behind the scenes of not only capturing a real-life story on film, but on the challenges of filming in so much water. It’s a chance for audiences to see how Bening and Foster have connected to their actual counterparts, Diana Nyad and her best friend and coach Bonnie Stoll, and to hear from Nyad and Still themselves on seeing their story recreated in front of their eyes.

The uplifting tone of the featurette mirrors the film’s trailer, focusing on a story of tenacity, friendship, and the triumph of the human spirit. It’s the narrative directorial debut of Vasarhelyi and Chin and has been adapted from Nyad’s book, Find a Way.

See the featurette below and see NYAD in select theaters on October 20, two weeks before its November 3 debut on Netflix.
