Shailene Woodley is a 1960s Housewife in “The Last Letter From Your Lover”

No one would blame you if you thought Valentine’s Day was right around the corner after watching the trailer for Netflix’s The Last Letter From Your Lover. It feels like a classic Feb 14 romance film. And yet, it’s May. Still, as the weather heats up, it’ll be good to have a new romance to swoon over inside our air-conditioned homes.

Based on the novel by JoJo Moyes, The Last Letter From Your Lover follows Ellie Haworth (Felicity Jones), an ambitious journalist who discovers secret love letters from 1965 and becomes determined to find out what happened to the couple. Jennifer Stirling (Shailene Woodley), the wife of a wealthy industrialist, finds herself falling for Anthony O’Hare (Callum Turner), a financial journalist sent to cover her husband. As the affair intensifies, Ellie finds herself in a love story all her own with an archivist (Nathan Rizwan) and they both become set on discovering what happened to Jennifer and Anthony.

The film is directed by Augustine Frizzell and written by Nick Payne and Esta Spalding. While the trailer may be a little cheesy, it’s hard to resist a good period love story and the costumes that come with it, so expect plenty to tune in when The Last Letter From Your Lover arrives on Netflix on July 23, 2021.
