Haunting “Moonlight” Trailer Explores Being Black and LGBT

Set to a building soundtrack of strings, the trailer for Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight is nothing short of captivating. We follow our main character, Chiron (Trevante Rhodes), through his life from childhood to adolescence to adulthood. It’s a haunting montage of his struggles with identity and masculinity.

Moonlight also stars Naomie Harris, Andre Holland, Mahershala Ali, and singer Janelle Monae in her acting debut. It is the highly anticipated follow-up to Jenkins’ Medicine for Melancholy, a 2008 film festival favorite that had its premiere at South by Southwest.

This time around, Moonlight is an Official Selection at Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival. It opens in New York and Los Angeles on October 21st.
