Review: Paranormal Activity 2

Score:B+

Director:Tod Williams

Cast:Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat

Running Time:91 Minutes

Rated:R

A year ago the country was sent on a unique and cleverly
marketed adventure in the form of Oren Peli's indie horror film Paranormal Activity.  Benefiting from one of the most
ingenious marketing plans to ever involve social media; the little film played
to sold-out crowds and garnered nearly $200 million at the worldwide box
office.  Now, one year later, we
are greeted with a sequel, one that actually merits the craze.

I will be the first to admit that I got wrapped up in the
energy that surrounded the original film.
The frenzy was fun, but the film wasn't exactly amazing.  The sequel?  Well that is a little different.

Adding the unique presence of a child and the clever use of
security cameras Tod Williams has effectively crafted a well-suited sequel that
will have you jumping in fright, as you anticipate what you can't yet see.

The movie runs only 91 minutes; however, the constant use of
your eyes and mind will have you leaving the theater both exhausted and
perplexed.  The story from the
original film comes into play during this sequel with both Katie Featherston
and Micah Sloat reprising their roles.
The interconnected story lines helped this film exceed my every
expectation as the director finally uncovers the reason for the demon presence.

I will say that the ending comes a bit quick, and I'm not
entirely sure how they tend to proceed with the story for what will surely be a
third film in the series.  But when
looking at the film itself, I have to say that I am very surprised.  While I wasn't downright scared, I did
have fun.  I jumped a bit, bit my
nails and even laughed a time or two.
Paranormal Activity 2 is not
only a sequel worth seeing, but an adventure worth experiencing.

About Stephen Davis

Stephen Davis
I owe this hobby/career to the one and only Stephanie Peterman who, while interning at Fox, told me that I had too many opinions and irrelevant information to keep it all bottled up inside. I survived my first rated R film, Alive, at the ripe age of 8, it took me months to grasp the fact that Julia Roberts actually died at the end of Steel Magnolias, and I might be the only person alive who actually enjoyed Sorority Row…for its comedic value of course. While my friends can drink you under the table, I can outwatch you when it comes iconic, yet horrid 80s films like Adventures in Babysitting and Troop Beverly Hills. I have no shame when it comes to what I like, and if you have a problem with that, then we’ll settle it on the racquetball court. I see too many movies to actually win any film trivia contest, so don’t waste your first pick on me. My friends rent movies from my bookcase shelves, and one day I do plan to start charging. I long to live in LA, where my movie obsession will actually help me fit in, but for now I am content with my home in Austin. I prefer indies to blockbusters, Longhorns to Sooners and Halloween to Friday the 13th. I miss the classics, as well as John Ritter, and I hope to one day sit down and interview the amazing Kate Winslet.
