Shortly after it breathed a massive (and desperately needed) breath of fresh air into the 79th Cannes Film Festival, Na Hong-jin’s Hope has gotten its first teaser trailer. And much like the film, it is epic!
Set in the isolated village of Hope Harbor, the South Korean sci-fi monster film centers on police chief Bum-seok and his partner, who are charged with investigating a mysterious creature that has wreaked havoc on the small village.
Though not much is revealed in the short teaser, it quickly becomes evident that Hong-jin’s creative muscles are flexing hard as breathtaking visuals fill the screen, giving viewers plenty to absorb as we watch more and more chaos ensue with each passing scene.
Written and directed by the famed creator, Hope stars Hwang Jung-Min, Zo In-Sung, Hoyeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender.
Even though the film is in main competition at Cannes, Neon, which smartly picked up North American and English-language distribution rights last month, is using the positive reception to launch an early marketing campaign. Having received a seven-minute standing ovation at its premiere, the distributor wasted no time announcing a fall release date, likely planning an awards-season push.
Check out the trailer below and look for Hope in theaters later this year.
