To many women serving in a wedding is a hassle, but for Jane it is a pleasure. Having helped plan and execute some twenty-seven weddings Jane is completely content with staying the bridesmaid. However when her sister begins to fall for her one true love, Jane can't help but be jealous and irritated. But as always the show must go on. Will Jane be able to finally stand up for herself and say no or will she continue to plan her dream wedding to her dream man "“ all for her sister? Either way one thing is for sure "¦ there will be a wedding.
Though the film is predictable and a definite chick flick it does contain a lot of laughs and provides for a relaxing and enjoyable time at the movies.
The first and most notable success in 27 Dresses is its comedy and wit. Taking a comedic look at weddings, relationships and love the film thrives on its humor, creating hilarious, real life situations. And although the dialogue is somewhat corny it still works in pulling off the perfect chick film.
Additionally I want to comment on the film's acting. Most of the times comedies lack the degree of acting talent that is present in most dramas; however 27 Dresses nailed it as Katherine Heigl, James Marsden and Judy Greer all rise to the occasion delivering unforgettable performances. With that said I want to commend Judy Greer for stealing the show from Katherine Heigl. Playing the best friend to the film's leading lady can often times leave you stuck in the background; however Greer spent every second on screen as if it were her last, delivering humor, intelligence and straight up sarcasm to give the film its rough edge. In short she took a mediocre film and gave it some spice, making it up with something that was both unique and clever.
I also want to comment on the film's overall feel. While taking a date to a movie is never a bad idea, taking a date to a film about getting married is a guy's worst nightmare. Because of this I want to mention that the film is great for groups and girl's night out; however as a date film it should be handled with care. Either way I enjoyed it and would recommend that everyone at least give it a chance.
