Fresh off its premiere at the 83rd Venice Film Festival, Lance Oppenheim’s Primetime has just unveiled its final trailer, giving us an intense, unhinged, and frankly bizarre Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, the real-life Dateline NBC correspondent and host of the now-infamous To Catch a Predator.
The film draws inspiration from the popular Dateline NBC segment that became a cultural phenomenon during its run, capturing suspected sexual predators in sting operations. In the series, Hansen would confront adult men with hidden cameras positioned throughout a home where they had arrived expecting to meet minors. Instead, they were met by Hansen and waiting law enforcement.
The show has seen renewed interest in recent years. Predators, a documentary directed by David Osit, premiered at Sundance in 2025, examining the tactics and legacy of the series. Now, Primetime takes that story to the scripted side, dramatizing the rise and fall of the popular show that became a cultural touchstone of television history.
Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher, Bokeem Woodbine, and Phoebe Bridgers co-star in the film, which is penned by Ajon Singh. The film will screen this weekend at Fantastic Fest before hitting theaters on September 25.
