Ron Howard, Peter Fonda, Pam Grier, Martin Scorsese, William Shatner, Jack Nicholson and Robert De Niro all have one thing in common: they all got their start in a Roger Corman film.

While most movie fans don't recognize the name, millions of genre fans idolize the man who successfully crafted a style that would pave way for such classics as Jaws and Raven.  Roger Corman is the popcorn selling king, crating over 400 films during the last 60 years, none of which have lost a cent at the box-office.

Corman's World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel is a full length documentary that dives into the methodology used by Corman as he successfully writes, directs, and produces films that cater to that special niche audience.

Featuring interviews from the likes of Scorsese, Nicholas, Eli Roth, and Paul W.S. Anderson, the film tells Corman's story from an admirers point of view.  You quickly begin to see the love and admiration that the industry has towards the famous director as he unveils just how and why he got into the industry.

Your heart breaks when they reveal the pivotal change in cinema attendance that swept him from his high ranking pedestal, but you wonder just how the industry would be different without his active participation.  His films are unique to say the least, and those who enjoy them have many to feast their eyes upon.  Many actors owe their careers to Corman, and most have not forgotten their roots.

Sadly the film itself will be lost upon the casual viewer.  It takes a die hard fan to appreciate Corman's style of filmmaking, and the same goes for Stapleton's documentary that tells his story.

About Stephen Davis

Stephen Davis
I owe this hobby/career to the one and only Stephanie Peterman who, while interning at Fox, told me that I had too many opinions and irrelevant information to keep it all bottled up inside. I survived my first rated R film, Alive, at the ripe age of 8, it took me months to grasp the fact that Julia Roberts actually died at the end of Steel Magnolias, and I might be the only person alive who actually enjoyed Sorority Row…for its comedic value of course. While my friends can drink you under the table, I can outwatch you when it comes iconic, yet horrid 80s films like Adventures in Babysitting and Troop Beverly Hills. I have no shame when it comes to what I like, and if you have a problem with that, then we’ll settle it on the racquetball court. I see too many movies to actually win any film trivia contest, so don’t waste your first pick on me. My friends rent movies from my bookcase shelves, and one day I do plan to start charging. I long to live in LA, where my movie obsession will actually help me fit in, but for now I am content with my home in Austin. I prefer indies to blockbusters, Longhorns to Sooners and Halloween to Friday the 13th. I miss the classics, as well as John Ritter, and I hope to one day sit down and interview the amazing Kate Winslet.
