A common piece of writing advice is to write what you know. Stand-up comedian Iliza Shlesinger is an unabashed fan of the saying in her upcoming film for Netflix, Good on Paper.
In the film, stand-up comedian Andrea Singer (Shlesinger) is in her mid-thirties and feels suddenly left behind when it comes to dating and relationships. That all changes when she meets Dennis (Ryan Hansen), a nerdy corporate guy that convinces her to take a chance on him. Her best friend Margot (Margaret Cho) doesn’t believe he’s as perfect as he seems, so the two women begin a series of hijinks to see if they can figure out who the real Dennis is.
The new trailer promises hijinks and intrigue - and Ryan Hansen with a prosthetic belly and teeth. It looks a bit silly and a bit over-the-top, which is just what you want from a summer rom-com. Based on a mostly true story, Good on Paper is written by Shlesinger and directed by Kimmy Gatewood. Watch the trailer below and catch it on Netflix on June 23.
