“National Champions” Trailer Sets College Football Players Against the System

College athletes and their compensation have been a hot topic in recent years with more and more institutions taking a hard look at how their student-athletes are financially compensated for their work. Now that topic is getting the movie treatment.

Produced by NFL player Russell Wilson, upcoming film National Champions follows a college football team on their way to the national championship game who decide to boycott until all student-athletes are fairly compensated. At the heart of this strike is star quarterback LeMarcus James (Stephen James) and teammate Emmett Sunday (Alexander Ludwig). With only hours until kickoff, it’s a battle of wills between head coach (J.K. Simmons) and his team of players.

Written by Adam Mervis and directed by Ric Roman Waugh, the film also stars Lil Real Howery, Tim Blake Nelson, Andrew Bachelor, Jeffrey Donovan, David Koechner, Kristen Chenoweth, Timothy Olyphant, and Uzo Aduba.
