Modern dating may feel more difficult than ever before, but meeting your significant others’s family has always been a challenge and perfect fodder for television and films.
You People is a new entry to the genre. Ezra Cohen (Jonah Hill) and Amira Mohammed (Lauren London) are in love, but then comes meeting the families. Ezra must impress Amira’s difficult-to-please parents (Eddie Murphy and Nia Long) while hoping not to be too embarrassed by his semi-woke parents (Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny.) As cultures clash and eggshells are decimated underfoot, the pair must grapple with how sustainable their relationship is long-term.
With an absolutely star-studded cast, You People looks set to take on family dynamics a la Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner with a twenty-first century twist. The Netflix film is directed by Kenya Barris and co-written by Barris and Jonah Hill. Watch the trailer below and see You People on Netflix on January 27.
