If you watch the trailer for La Chimera, it might seem like a sort of indie Indiana Jones. But despite delving deep into the world of stolen artifacts and their spiritual connections, Alice Rohrwacher will have something deeper and stranger in mind.
Josh O'Connor (Netflix's The Crown) stars as Arthur, a British archaeologist on both a research and personal mission in Italy. Encountering friendly locals and shady thieves, he searches for ancient treasures and a past love. But whether either are attainable remains to be seen. Filmed on location in Tuscany and Lazio, the film's gorgeous cinematography shines, even in this trailer.
Take a look at the official description and trailer below:
Everyone has their own Chimera, something they try to achieve but never manage to find. For the band of tombaroli, thieves of ancient grave goods and archaeological wonders, the Chimera means redemption from work and the dream of easy wealth. For Arthur, the Chimera looks like the woman he lost, Beniamina. To find her, Arthur challenges the invisible, searches everywhere, goes inside the earth - in search of the door to the afterlife of which myths speak. In an adventurous journey between the living and the dead, between forests and cities, between celebrations and solitudes, the intertwined destinies of these characters unfold, all in search of the Chimera.
La Chimera arrives in select theaters on March 29.
