As someone who loves a good romantic-comedy, that landscape has been pretty barren lately. Thankfully, Trainwreck is here to solve that problem. Starring Amy Schumer and directed by Judd Apatow, Trainwreck is a hilarious look at a woman learning to finally commit to a real relationship.

Part of the reason rom-coms have gotten stale is because they've become too formulaic. Hardworking, uptight career woman learns to let down her hair (often literally) when she meets a handsome man who teaches her how to relax and be happy. Amy Townsend (Amy Schumer) is most definitely not that woman. She drinks, she parties, she sleeps around, and she refuses to get attached. She truly took to heart the words her dad told her when he was getting a divorce: "Monogamy isn't realistic." She looks at her married sister and her husband and stepchild with disdain "“ a life she never wants. That is, until she meets Aaron Conners (Bill Hader), a sports doctor who works with the likes of LeBron James (who really shines in this comedic role).

Schumer absolutely dazzles in the lead role, brandishing her trademark raunchy humor on the big screen with ease. It's incredibly refreshing to watch someone who doesn't fit the general mold of Hollywood starlet, unafraid to eat and curse. It's much more relatable. Hader also excels as the leading man with a perfect mix of charm and humor. Apatow perfectly ground out some of the outlandish humor with more true-to-life emotional moments, mostly centered on Amy's ailing father played by Colin Quinn.

The best though, is that this is one of the most consistently funny films I've seen in a long time. I laughed at all the right times and got emotional at all the right times, just like you should with a good rom-com.
