Sundance Review: Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie

Score:B

Director:Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim

Cast:Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, John C. Reilly, Will Ferrell

Running Time:92 Minutes

Rated:R

It is 11:30 at night and I am sitting in a theater
surrounded by drunk 20-somethings and 50-year-old women who have no idea what
they are about to see. At promptly 11:45 the film begins and for the next 92
minutes, the audience is barraged with dead-pan stares, shit-eating grins,
stupid songs, poop jokes, and awkward father/son moments.

"What
the fuck did I just watch?" is the general consensus. Some are horrified and
pissed off. Others, like me, loved every second of it.

I've never been a fan of the duo's Tim and Eric Awesome Show,
Great Job!, but it turns out if you have to sit through an hour and
half of Tim and Eric's shenanigans rather than just fifteen minutes, their
comedy starts to wear on you, and you cannot help but laugh out loud. Although their
comedy is considered by many to be "low-brow", I couldn't help but marvel at
their ability to capture commentary on comedy itself---they were literally making
fun of being funny.

How is curing an ailment by pooping
on it any sillier than injecting one's face with toxic chemicals to look
younger? Answer: it isn't. And the former is definitely funnier to watch.

This film is absolutely not for
children, but nor is it for adults. I would say it is for those in-betweeners
like me who will forever see life for the joke that it is. Shrim!!!!!
