Sundance Review: The Details

Director:Jacob Aaron Estes

Cast:Tobey Maguire, Elizabeth Banks, Laura Linney Ray Liotta

Running Time:91.00

Rated:NR

The Details had some great qualities and tons of poor ones, too.
In the beginning, I was having a good time, until I wasn't. Ultimately, The Details created it's own misery.

Dr. Lang and his wife are
celebrating their 10-year anniversary. They have one child and hope to have
another. Yet their lives together are not ideal. At the same time, Dr. Lang has
taken pride in his backyard that is being terrorized by raccoons. Everything
considered he begins to lose it in a string of infidelities, lies, and general
bad behavior.  The Details is a journey in how Dr. Lang handles these mistakes.

Laura Linney made this film. As
the eccentric next-door neighbor, she plays it extraordinarily cool. What
damaged the story was my disdain for the other characters. In the end, no one
seems to learn anything and I despised Dr. Lang as the lead. Although I first
connected with them, I realized these were people I didn't want to know.

There were many predictable
situations and as I watched them unfold, I thought, please, please do something
different. But every time I thought that, it turned out the way it always does.
For that, I was disappointed. The
Details missed the chance to go down a
different path and really stand out.

The Details had laughable scenes and an interesting story line,
so it's worth seeing once. Just don't be surprised if you end up hating the
characters or realizing that the story turns out exactly like you'd expect.
