Based on a book, Salvation Boulevard delivered on all counts. I couldn't stop laughing and
I really appreciate the unique material. This film was great.
A well-known pastor finds himself
engaged in a conversation with an anti-religion activist. The pastor accidentally
fires a bullet into his opponent's head. Carl, a recent convert to the church,
is with the pastor, and is a witness to the entire event. Ultimately, Carl
finds himself caught up in a crazy mishap where he must explain his own
innocence.
The cast couldn't have been
funnier; Pierce Brosnan, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Greg Kinnear, and Marisa
Tomei had great energy and comedic skill. The ensemble worked well as a cast,
which only strengthened the power of this film.
Salvation Boulevard strays from the usual film formula. Honestly, it's
wonderful to see a dark comedy that isn't afraid to be itself, and for that
reason, I began to trust the movie and allow it to take me down its road.
As far as its religious content,
I wasn't offended. I didn't feel as if it made inappropriate jabs at one side
or another. Salvation Boulevard
wouldn't allow religious context to
become a character and dominate any scene. Religion was simply a background for
the craziness of the situation.
Salvation Boulevard was hilarious, compelling and overall was awesome.
It rarely happens, but in this movie all of my expectations were met and
exceeded.
