Sundance Review: Life in a Day

Running Time:90 Minutes

Back in July, I read an
advertisement on YouTube asking for everyone to videotape something on July
24th and post it back online. Now that the film has finally been completed, I
was more than excited to see the results. It turns out that Life In A Day is nothing special whatsoever. I'd even go as far to call it a failed
project.

Life In A Day was meant to be completely created by people around
the world. Anything from waking up in the morning to talking to your family to
shaving made it into the film. They state that over 4,500 hours of film was
submitted.

Considering how easy it is to
make a movie these days, this project makes sense. However, there were videos
of people living in squalor without anything to their name. It was in analyzing
those situations that I questioned how they were able to upload their film. If someone
from Life In A Day went around to various countries and filmed people,
it's misleading to pretend that the movie is entirely made by average people.

The material that did make it
into Life In A Day was generally boring and uneventful. They tried to
have some story lines that lasted longer than 30 seconds, but I didn't really
care. In fact, I was mad about some of the footage they decided to include. I'd
rather not watch a cow be brutally murdered right after seeing an inspiring
story about love.

Life In A Day really missed it's mark. After the project sounded
so cool, it was a huge let-down that the film was done so poorly.
