Films are meant to be fun. Sometimes I feel we all get so caught up in the perfection of a theatrical release that we forget the reason that we are there: entertainment. I started loving moves at an early age because I enjoyed them, Bradley Scott Sullivan's I Didn't Come Here to Die fits the bill perfectly for a fun, entertaining, and slightly mind teasing adventure - now what more could we ask for?
The film, which tells the story of six humanitarians who run into a bit of trouble while out on a project site, is the perfect example of a fun film. The rash decisions that the young adults make lead to deadly consequences, making them each their own worst enemy. Their backgrounds are kept a semi-secret, which helps give the film a mysterious quality; however, this film is not scary. Rather, it is a story full of comical intrigue that will have you on the edge of your seat as you long to know how it will all end.
The acting isn't necessarily stellar; however, it fits the personality of the movie and allows us all to become wrapped up in both the story and it's characters. The presence of sex, alcohol and the annoying kid who signed up for all the wrong reasons is there in full force, but they don't distract you from the film's other unique qualities.
I was a bit disappointed with the selection of personalities as each team member seemed to fit a standard stereotype; however, by the film's end, the reasoning behind such choices became clear. I Didn't Come Here to Die was never trying to reinvent the wheel; it was simply mocking the invention in the first place, using wit and charm to generate a fun-filled experience that will surely entertain the genre's most dedicated fans.
