Writer/Director Austin Chick had something brewing with his conceptual idea of Girls Against Boys.  Unfortunately, the idea never reached its full potential as the film itself fails to yield any real character development or reason why a pair of girls opt to take vengeance on a group of New York City boys.

That being said, Girls Against Boys is still a fun film that can be enjoyable...as long as you don't take it too seriously.

The film, which is tabbed as a revenge thriller, showcases two woman who are fed up with the men in their lives.   So, in a calm and controlled manner, the two set out to kill those who have created ill feelings.  This would have been an absolute thrill ride if it hadn't taken place in a mere 24 hours with little resistance from the victims and absolutely no investigation from the police.

The story is meant to be character driven as opposed to the often used action driven.  The build ups to the death sequences (if you even want to call them that) leave much to be desired as most are over before you realize what's going on.  Others are perfectly played as the girls get creative in their execution-style murder spree, often giving the guys a taste of their own medicine.

Girls Against Boys can easily be described as a coming-of-age story, though I doubt its producers wish to carry such a label.  In the end, it is a solid film that intermixes qualities from several genres.  At times it gets gruesome but in a way that fits with the film's overall tone"”and a psychological twist will leave you in a state of awe as the credits begin to roll.  It is this, as well as my love for thrillers, that makes this indie worth checking out.

About Stephen Davis

Stephen Davis
I owe this hobby/career to the one and only Stephanie Peterman who, while interning at Fox, told me that I had too many opinions and irrelevant information to keep it all bottled up inside. I survived my first rated R film, Alive, at the ripe age of 8, it took me months to grasp the fact that Julia Roberts actually died at the end of Steel Magnolias, and I might be the only person alive who actually enjoyed Sorority Row…for its comedic value of course. While my friends can drink you under the table, I can outwatch you when it comes iconic, yet horrid 80s films like Adventures in Babysitting and Troop Beverly Hills. I have no shame when it comes to what I like, and if you have a problem with that, then we’ll settle it on the racquetball court. I see too many movies to actually win any film trivia contest, so don’t waste your first pick on me. My friends rent movies from my bookcase shelves, and one day I do plan to start charging. I long to live in LA, where my movie obsession will actually help me fit in, but for now I am content with my home in Austin. I prefer indies to blockbusters, Longhorns to Sooners and Halloween to Friday the 13th. I miss the classics, as well as John Ritter, and I hope to one day sit down and interview the amazing Kate Winslet.
