Review: Furry Vengeance

Score:F

Director:Roger Kumble

Cast:Brendan Fraser, Brooke Shields, Ken Jeong, Ricky Garcia

Running Time:92 Minutes

Rated:PG

It is a fairly familiar tale- the big greedy company will stop at nothing to make a buck. Dan Sanders uproots his family from Chicago to Oregon to develop an eco-friendly community, and in the process, he "pisses off nature".

We soon find out that this company is not as eco-friendly as it claims, and a local raccoon will stop at nothing to prevent Dan from destroying the forest. The raccoon discovers the company's plan to annihilate his home by sneaking into a meeting between Dan and his boss. Shortly thereafter, the forest animals begin harassing the culprit, making his life miserable. From a crow that won't let him sleep to some skunks that lock him in a car, Dan cannot escape the wrath of the animals. On top of everything, no one else sees the animals causing the chaos, and everyone begins to think Dan is losing his mind.

The acting wasn't the only thing bad in Robert Kumble's Furry Vengeance. The CG animals looked cartoonish in many scenes, like normal animals in others, and in more the one case you can they were simply stuffed. The final straw for me was the fact that these animals were out for blood, which was a bit morbid for the PG rated film. You would think that the kid movie was supposed to teach us a lesson"¦ not these animals. The film even alludes to the "disappearance" of Dan's predecessor. (We see his Porsche knocked off a cliff by a huge boulder.)

Many movies made for children have adult appeal too; this movie is not one of those. Here we get to see just how many times one film can use poop, pee, crotch shots, and fart jokes to get a cheap laugh. The acting is bad, and not even Ken Jeong of Hangover fame could save this disastrous script. Although the movie may get laughs from the younger crowd (due to the aforementioned bodily function jokes) I would say if you're really looking for a kids movie, go see How To Train Your Dragon for a second time over wasting your time and money on this. Oh, and to top off the madness, the terrible actors and CG animals sing and dance along to "insane in the membrane" during the end credits. Yea, that might actually be worth the price of admission (wink).
