A well known music video and commercial director who has worked with Eminem, Britney Spears, and U2, and a well known comedian seemed like two key elements of a potentially successful film. Not so much. The longest 88 minutes of my life centered on high school teens from Grizzly Lake who were being victimized by a horror movie killer. The teens, stuck in detention, must find a way to discover who the killer is and how to stop them in order to save the whole town.
With parts reminiscent of Scream, The Breakfast Club, and Freaky Friday, I felt like this film was all over the place. A running theme of 90s clothes was way overdone, and the teen dialogue in this film was so far above the characters' own heads that I could only compare it to Dawson's Creek or Juno. None of the actors or their acting was memorable. Dane Cook was the only familiar face, and his character was simply silly and overdone "“a running theme in this film.
Every scene seemed to introduce new characters and a change in direction. I never knew what was happening, and the resolution was just ridiculous. I wondered if I was completely missing something because of my lack of creativity or formal film education, but I soon realized that others around me wanted to leave as well, and they were simply stuck waiting for the food they had already ordered. There was nothing notable about this film, and I refuse to spend more time analyzing a grade. I'll be surprised if this film gets distribution, but if Hell freezes over, don't waste your time and money.
