SXSW Review: Bob and the Moster

Score:B-

Director:Keirda Bahruth

Cast:Bob Forrest, Courtney Love, Anthony Kiedis

Running Time:89.00

Rated:R

Six years in the making, this documentary film follows outspoken indie-rocker Bob Forrest, throughout his battle with addiction, to his conversion into one of the most influential and controversial drug counselors in the US today.  Bob and the Monster shows contemporary footage, animation and compelling interviews with archival performances and personal videos from Bob's past to reveal the complex layers of this troubled, but hopeful soul. Testimony from his peers and content to his story, but it's the depth of Bob's music, interwoven throughout the film that illuminates this unforgettable and inspirational story.

This documentary really highlights the heartache and complexity of addiction. Director Keirda Bahruth shows her dedication and commitment to Bob and his battle with addiction by giving us a touching look into his life. Bahruth helps highlight Bob's story by accentuating Bob's transformation in a positive light. What really makes this documentary complete is the fact that you feel emotionally invested in the story throughout the film.

Overall, I think Bob and the Monster will have a positive effect on anyone who takes the time to watch it. Bob's story is truly a remarkable one that shows that any can overcome addiction.   If you have a love of documentaries then I would highly recommend you see this film.
