“Sonic” Gets a Horrific Makeover in Film’s Teaser Poster

Fans have officially been “treated” to a teaser poster for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog film, and to say that it is slightly disturbing would be a severe understatement.

The film, which is being directed by Jeff Fowler, boasts an impressive cast: Ben Schwartz serves as the voice for the titular hero while Jim Carrey stars as the evil Dr. Robotnick. But the marketing material here is anything but funny. In fact, to many, it will be seen as nothing other than horrific.

The poster (can also be viewed as a motion poster), contains a silhouette of the famed video game character that came to fruition in 1991 by way of the then newly minted Sega Genesis game console. But instead of paying tribute to the original look and feel of the game, Paramount has given the iconic character an visually disturbing makeover, one that is a bit too emo for me.

Hopefully, the forthcoming trailer will shine a bit of light on the new look, and change my mind. As it sits, November 8, 2019 could be a sad day for the 90s kid in us all.
