Original ‘Halloween’ Gets 35th Anniversary Release

Anchor Bay Entertainment and Trancas International have annouced the September 24, 2013 release of the 35th Anniversary Blu-Ray edition of the cult classic Halloween.  The film will be released with several fresh bonus features (including a new feature length audio commentary with diretor John Carpenter and star Jamie Lee Curtis) and will be available in a collectal book style packaging.

The film, which introduced the world to a new kind of horror, centers around Michael Myers, who as a child, butchered his sister with a kitchen knife.  Committed to a mental instution where he is constantly watched over by Mr. Loomis, Michael spends 15 years planning his escape; one that finally comes to fruition one Halloween night.  Now he is back home, where he is looking to terrorize and kill anyone who gets in his path - even babysitter Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis).

Made for just 325,000 John Carpenter's Halloween grossed over $47 million in 1978, making it one of the most successful indie films of all time.  It kick started numerous careers (including star Jamie Lee Curtis) and is still viewed as one of the best horror films to ever hit the big screen.  Now, thanks to a careful HD conversion that was overseen by the film's original cinematographer, Academy-Award® nominee Dean Cundey, you have the chance to experience the film in your home like never before.

Halloween: 35th Anniversary Edition hits store shelves just in time for the holiday, September 24, 2013.

About Stephen Davis

Stephen Davis
I owe this hobby/career to the one and only Stephanie Peterman who, while interning at Fox, told me that I had too many opinions and irrelevant information to keep it all bottled up inside. I survived my first rated R film, Alive, at the ripe age of 8, it took me months to grasp the fact that Julia Roberts actually died at the end of Steel Magnolias, and I might be the only person alive who actually enjoyed Sorority Row…for its comedic value of course. While my friends can drink you under the table, I can outwatch you when it comes iconic, yet horrid 80s films like Adventures in Babysitting and Troop Beverly Hills. I have no shame when it comes to what I like, and if you have a problem with that, then we’ll settle it on the racquetball court. I see too many movies to actually win any film trivia contest, so don’t waste your first pick on me. My friends rent movies from my bookcase shelves, and one day I do plan to start charging. I long to live in LA, where my movie obsession will actually help me fit in, but for now I am content with my home in Austin. I prefer indies to blockbusters, Longhorns to Sooners and Halloween to Friday the 13th. I miss the classics, as well as John Ritter, and I hope to one day sit down and interview the amazing Kate Winslet.
