The truth is out there "“ finally "“ that The X-Files will return to television screens soon. FOX announced on Tuesday that the conspiracy drama would resume production in Summer 2015 for a six-episode run helmed by creator and executive producer Chris Carter and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
The X-Files originally ran from 1993 to 2002 and was hailed as a cult favorite, spawning 202 episodes and two movies. "I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," said Carter. "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."
While no further information (including a premiere date) is known, the reunion follows in the footsteps of other recently announced television revivals such as 24: Live Another Day (aired on FOX in Summer 2014), Heroes Reborn (airing on NBC in 2015), and Twin Peaks (airing on Showtime in 2016).
