Downton Abbey Sequel Gets New Title

Just when you thought you were safe from posh twentieth-century Brits, the Downton Abbey family is back. Focus Features and Carnival Films have just announced that the Crawley family with make their return to the silver screen in Downton Abbey: A New Era.

The original cast will return in the sequel alongside newcomers Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West. The screenplay is written by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes and BAFTA and Emmy nominated Simon Curtis is directing.

After a critically acclaimed and wildly popular six seasons, Downton Abbey moved to the big screen in 2019. Just as successful as the television series, it was only natural that a sequel would follow. While little is known about the plot of Downton Abbey: A New Era, we can assume it follows the Crowley clan on glamorous new adventures and exploits as the family heads into the 1930s.

The film hits theaters in the US and internationally on March 18, 2022. Let’s hope by then we can enjoy some glitzy parties and costumed screenings like the ones we enjoyed when the first film came out.
