Either Willie Soke (aka “Bad Santa”) learned nothing from the first film, or Hollywood has just run out of ideas. Okay, it’s probably the second one. Nevertheless, Billy Bob Thornton is back to wreak holiday havoc, and he’s bringing along some old friends.
Tony Cox reprises his role as Marcus in Bad Santa 2, and despite the fact that he and Willie seem to despise one another, the recently released Marcus wants Willie’s help in yet another half-baked robbery. The target this time around is a charity run by Christina Hendricks (Mad Men). Oh, and did I mention Kathy Bates makes an appearance? The Oscar-winning Bates plays Willie’s mother, and the new red band trailer offers a brief glimpse at their not-so-loving relationship.
Bad Santa 2 doesn’t have the same writer or director as the cult original, but it returns the ingredient that made it a hit: Billy Bob Thornton. Give him a dirty Santa suit and some wildly inappropriate lines, and he’ll give you Christmas comedy gold. But don’t—under any circumstances—take the family to see this one.
