A24 Announces Re-Release of “The Witch” with New Trailer

In case you missed it when it first possessed theaters back in February, A24 Films is offering up a second opportunity to experience the terror of Robert Eggers’ instant horror classic The Witch when it gets a nation wide re-release on Friday, April 1st. And to celebrate the occasion, the studio has just released a special new trailer.

Set in the New England wilderness, circa 1630, The Witch fluidly blends witchcraft, black magic and possession in an eerie and unexpected dissection of one family’s calamitous unraveling. Taking place decades prior to the 1692 Salem witch trials, the film utilizes brilliant performances by the entire cast and a flawless score to showcase a time when religious principles were held to the utmost standard and going against the grain quickly turned into mass hysteria. But for a father whose family was on the verge of being banished by the church, taking his family to a remote plot of land on the edge of the forest seemed like a good idea. But the unknown evil lurking around is about to start a chain of events that will question each family member’s faith and loyalty, setting the stage for a devastating battle of good vs evil .

The Witch stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, Harvey Scrimshaw, Ellie Grainger and Lucas Dawson. It made its debut at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and is poised to take over last year’s fan-favorite Ex-Machina as A24’s highest grossing film ever.

About Stephen Davis

Stephen Davis
I owe this hobby/career to the one and only Stephanie Peterman who, while interning at Fox, told me that I had too many opinions and irrelevant information to keep it all bottled up inside. I survived my first rated R film, Alive, at the ripe age of 8, it took me months to grasp the fact that Julia Roberts actually died at the end of Steel Magnolias, and I might be the only person alive who actually enjoyed Sorority Row…for its comedic value of course. While my friends can drink you under the table, I can outwatch you when it comes iconic, yet horrid 80s films like Adventures in Babysitting and Troop Beverly Hills. I have no shame when it comes to what I like, and if you have a problem with that, then we’ll settle it on the racquetball court. I see too many movies to actually win any film trivia contest, so don’t waste your first pick on me. My friends rent movies from my bookcase shelves, and one day I do plan to start charging. I long to live in LA, where my movie obsession will actually help me fit in, but for now I am content with my home in Austin. I prefer indies to blockbusters, Longhorns to Sooners and Halloween to Friday the 13th. I miss the classics, as well as John Ritter, and I hope to one day sit down and interview the amazing Kate Winslet.
