“Believe me, I’m sparing you a lot of things.” Two of the directors of Academy Award-winning No Other Land have teamed up to film secret conversations with 24 Israeli soldiers. Their new documentary, NAZA, has just released its first trailer, and while the documentary’s setting is simple, its message is eye-opening.
Filmed in the safety of nighttime on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, the filmmakers have interviewed Israeli soldiers directly involved in the remote mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The soldiers are frank in their retellings of events, of how much leeway they were given to kill hundreds in the pursuit of killing one key player.
At less than two minutes long, the trailer makes an immediate impact and it’s no wonder that New York Magazine has called it “one of the most important films of our time.” Produced by The Guardian and directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, NAZA arrives in select theaters nationwide on October 9.
