Lightning McQueen is Back in “Cars 3”

Debuted during the CFP National Championship Game, we now have a little more information about what’s in store for Lightning McQueen in this summer’s Cars 3.

In our first peek at the film, we see McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) caught in a nasty accident and hurling through the air surrounded by scrap and sparks. Now we see that the accident pushes the aging racing car out of the sport which has moved on to faster, newer cars like Jackson Storm (voiced by Armie Hammer.) Determined to get back in the game, McQueen enlists the help of a young race technician, Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo).

While I’m not sure anyone specifically asked for Cars 3 to happen, it looks like McQueen still has adventures to tell. No word yet on which characters from the past two films will be featured in this installment, but all fingers (and windshield wipers) crossed for some good cameos!

Check out the extended look below. Cars 3 races into theaters on June 16, 2017.
