“Jurassic World: Rebirth” Gets Super Bowl Spot Treatment

In 2015, the universe stopped on its axis when Jurassic World shattered expectations to deliver a whopping $208 million opening.  The Colin Trevorrow film starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard kickstarted a new trilogy of dinosaur mayhem, giving a new generation a set of movies (and characters) with which to fall in love.

With that trilogy wrapping in 2022, audiences assumed it would be a while before we returned to the infamous dinosaur park for another trio of films.  But that wait has proven shorter than expected.

During Sunday night’s Super Bowl, as the Philadelphia Eagles were efficiently handling the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans, Universal unleashed a new television spot for the highly anticipated Jurassic World: Rebirth.

The film, which stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, takes place five years after the conclusion of Dominion.  In an attempt to extract DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures for a groundbreaking medical breakthrough that will provide miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind, a team travels to the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park.

The spot showcases a ton of action and a short glimpse of some of the dinosaurs that will occupy the big screen.  And while box office expectations are high for the kickoff of a newly minted trilogy, consumer behavior has changed drastically since 2015.  So, expect the benchmark to be considerably lower than any of the Chris Pratt lead films.

Check out the spot below and see Jurassic World: Rebirth when it stomps into theaters on July 2.

About Stephen Davis

I owe this hobby/career to the one and only Stephanie Peterman who, while interning at Fox, told me that I had too many opinions and irrelevant information to keep it all bottled up inside. I survived my first rated R film, Alive, at the ripe age of 8, it took me months to grasp the fact that Julia Roberts actually died at the end of Steel Magnolias, and I might be the only person alive who actually enjoyed Sorority Row…for its comedic value of course. While my friends can drink you under the table, I can outwatch you when it comes iconic, yet horrid 80s films like Adventures in Babysitting and Troop Beverly Hills. I have no shame when it comes to what I like, and if you have a problem with that, then we’ll settle it on the racquetball court. I see too many movies to actually win any film trivia contest, so don’t waste your first pick on me. My friends rent movies from my bookcase shelves, and one day I do plan to start charging. I long to live in LA, where my movie obsession will actually help me fit in, but for now I am content with my home in Austin. I prefer indies to blockbusters, Longhorns to Sooners and Halloween to Friday the 13th. I miss the classics, as well as John Ritter, and I hope to one day sit down and interview the amazing Kate Winslet.
