Disney and Pixar continue to pull at your heartstrings as Elio, their newest completely original collaboration, has just gotten a new trailer that, at first glance, appears out of place compared to the film's previously released marketing material.
Some might recall that Elio was initially slated for a spring 2024 release. Over the last few years, it has moved numerous times, forcing fans to scratch their heads at the studio's uncertainty surrounding the film.
Initially, the film's stronghold centered around Elio being abducted by aliens and mistaken for the lone representative of Earth. According to the press release, that is still part of the story. But it goes unmentioned in this new trailer. Instead, we focus on that same boy making his first real friend, an alien named Gordon. Gordon, hardly seen in previous trailers, seems to have a more vital role than initially revealed.
But a character-driven, coming-of-age story set in space. I'm in. I mean, what could go wrong? Based on the new trailer, plenty.
The trailer highlights Pixar's consistent visuals as we meet Elio and Gordon while also gaining a quick reference point to the vast world the studio will unleash. Much like 2001's Monsters, Inc. and 2023's Elemental, this outing appears to open the door to a wide range of characters and creativity.
Starring Yonas Kibreab, Remy Edgerly, Brad Garrett, Jameela Jamil, Shirley Henderson, and recently minted Oscar winner Zoe Saldaña, Elio will settle into theaters on June 20.
