We’re all pretty used to rom-com staple Hugh Grant. So it’s nice that in the last few years, he’s been enjoying turning that guy 180-degrees.
A24’s new film Heretic has just released its first trailer, and it’s promising Hugh Grant as a creepy, mysterious stranger who traps two young, female Mormon missionaries into playing games for their lives and their faith.
The two missionaries, played by Chloe East and Sophie Thatcher, seem excited that someone wants to talk to them about their faith, but that excitement turns to dread as they find themselves locked inside with the stranger. As he writes “BELIEF” and “DISBELIEF” on two doorways, he tells the girls, “I won’t keep you if you wish to leave, but I want you to choose which door to go through based on your faith.”
While the trailer is light on details, essential for any good horror/thriller, we do know that Heretic was written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the writers of A Quiet Place and Haunt.
Grant is clearly enjoying his recent spate of villain roles and Heretic seems to be a perfect fit. See it in theaters on November 15.
