As a big fan of every single film by writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson, I'm extremely excited for latest project, which just began production in the UK.
Though the film still does not have a title, it will explore the European fashion world of the 1950s. Daniel Day-Lewis, in his first film since 2012, will play the lead character: a dressmaker working for the British elite. He's reuniting with P.T.A. for the first time since 2007, when he won an Oscar for playing the ruthless Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood.
Also re-joining the team are Oscar-winning costume designer Mark Bridges (you can go ahead and mark him down for a nomination in 2018), Oscar-nominated film editor Dylan Tichenor, and Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood providing the score. All three men have long histories working on PTA's movies.
Anderson's last film was the Thomas Pynchon adaptation Inherent Vice, which didn't do very well at the box office, but received two well-deserved Academy Award nominations for costume design and writing. No release date has been set for this project, but I think it's a safe bet for a November or December opening, just in time for next year's awards season.
