Netflix’s original program ‘House of Cards’ has delayed Season 3 production pending the passage of sizable state tax breaks in Maryland. Set in Washington, D.C., ‘House of Cards’ just released its entire second season on Netflix to much critical acclaim. Production on Season 3 was supposed to begin this spring, but series producer Media Rights Council has made it clear that if the tax incentive bills don’t pass, ‘House of Cards’ will take their production elsewhere.
State tax incentives often help determine where a production can shoot. Previously, ‘House of Cards’ received more than $11 million in tax credits from Maryland for Season 1 and up to $15 million for Season 2.
