Fox Announces ‘Grease Live’ Musical Event

Fox has just announced that it will air a three-hour production of Grease sometime in 2015. With the success of NBC's Sound of Music Live event, it's no surprise that Fox is trying to get in on the live musical action.

NBC's Sound of Music Live brought in 18.5 million viewers, winning its Thursday night timeslot against CBS' The Big Bang Theory. NBC hadn't been that successful on a Thursday night since the series finale of ER back in 2009. Headlined by Carrie Underwood, the event had a 4.2 rating with adults 18-49, a prized demo for all networks. NBC plans on following up the event with Peter Pan Live, set to air on December 4, 2014.

Titled Grease Live, Fox says their special will feature "a young ensemble cast" that "will reintroduce the great music and timeless story to an entirely new generation." It will be based on the 1971 Broadway musical, which of course went on to be the basis for the hit 1978 movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Casting has yet to be announced, but who would you like to see belting out "Summer Lovin"? And do you think there's a chance we could see some cameos from the 1978 cast?
