Wes Anderson is back and more symmetrical than ever. This time, the quirky director returns to stop-motion animation in Isle of Dogs, a dystopian tale about a group of dogs exiled on an island. They develop their own societal rules and customs, away from all humans. That is, until a young boy arrives on the island looking for his lost dog. Thus, a grand adventure begins.
This is the first time Anderson has employed stop-motion animation since his 2009 film Fantastic Mr. Fox and features many of his usual crew of actors, including Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Yoko Ono.
The trailer is full of Anderson’s signature style. Monochromatic color palettes, symmetrical cinematography and a score by Alexandre Desplat are all hallmarks of his style. With a trailer full of his usual dry humor, Isle of Dogs looks to be a fun addition to the director’s collection of films. Watch the trailer below and see it in theaters on March 23, 2018.
