At a time when the phrase “fake news” seems to dominate the political landscape, it makes sense that a film would come along to remind us that journalists don’t just sit back and observe - some of them put their lives on the line.
In A Private War, Rosamund Pike plays Marie Colvin, one of the most celebrated war correspondents of our time. Constantly pushing her luck to get the story, she wears a distinctive eye patch as she travels to war-torn countries and puts her life on the line. The trailer reflects this swaggering lifestyle, with Colvin handling it, in turns, with grace and grief. Accompanied by war photographer Paul Conroy (Jamie Dornan), she embarks on the most dangerous assignment of her life by heading to the besieged Syrian city of Homs.
The film also stars Stanley Tucci and Tom Hollander, adapted from Marie Brenner’s 2012 Vanity Fair article “Marie Colvin’s Private War” and directed by documentary filmmaker Matthew Heinemann.
