The trailer for Disney’s live-action Snow White is finally here and it gives us our first glimpse at many of the iconic images and symbols from the 1937 film. It even fits in a preview of a brand new song, “Waiting on a Wish”.
The film stars Rachel Zegler as the titular Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. The trailer explains how Snow White wishes to lead her father’s kingdom with kindness, a policy in direct conflict with the Evil Queen’s preferred methods. As we see the Evil Queen consult her magic mirror, Snow White flees into the forest and encounters friendly wildlife and very familiar seven dwarves.
As the familiar plot points are revealed, the trailer’s music weaves in echoes of songs like “Heigh Ho”. The end of the trailer sees a more revolutionary Snow White than her 1937 counterpart, enlisting the help of the dwarves to unite against the Evil Queen. This is when we hear the first few lines of a new song written for the live action film, “Waiting on a Wish” written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul of Dear Evan Hansen and The Greatest Showman fame.
The live-action Snow White is directed by Marc Webb with a screenplay written by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. See the trailer below and see Snow White in theaters on March 21.
