Gold, Matthew McConaughey’s latest film, tells the outlandish but true story of Kenny Wells, a prospector in the 1980s who finds gold in Indonesia. Faced with incredible wealth, the boisterous Wells must now figure out how to navigate the dangers waters of business on Wall Street.
Tubby and balding with some fake teeth, this is certainly a different looking McConaughey than the one in True Detective or in those fancy car commercials. In the red band trailer, we get Kenny Wells in his truest form, cursing, drinking, and hot tubbing naked with a pretty lady while he fights adversaries on Wall Street (like Corey Stoll). Set in the late 80s, it’s easy to get some Wolf of Wall Street vibes from the decadence alone.
Co-starring Edgar Ramirez and Bryce Dallas Howard and directed by Stephen Gaghan (Syriana), Gold looks like a profanity-filled good time. Watch the red band trailer (obviously NSFW) below and see it in theaters on January 27.
