In these dark times, who will rise to save us? Kids, of course. In particular, a 12-year-old boy named Alex, who just happens to discover Excalibur, King Arthur’s sword, and pull it from its mythical stone. In doing so, he sets off a series of events that force him to rally his troops to defend against a greater evil, the enchantress Morgana.
The trailer sets a fun tone for a film that looks equal parts silly and exciting. Merlin, the famous wizard, is not an old man but a 16-year-old teenager. Perhaps old to a 12-year-old? Written and directed by Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) and set in modern day London, The Kid Who Would Be King takes a more lighthearted approach to King Arthur’s story, which is pretty much exactly what we need nowadays. As the tagline says, “kids rule and evil gets schooled.”
