Hot off the success of PBS’s series Victoria, we have our first trailer for Victoria & Abdul, a film that covers the English queen’s later life.
Victoria & Abdul chronicles an unexpected friendship late in the rule of Queen Victoria. When Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal), a young clerk, travels from India to participate in the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, he ends up striking up an odd but warm friendship with the aging monarch, much to the disappointment of her household and inner circle.
Directed by Stephen Frears (The Queen, Philomena), Victoria & Abdul looks sure to charm its viewers with this strange and little known pairing based on the book Victoria & Abdul: The True Story of the Queen’s Closest Confidant by Shrabani Basu. Also starring Michael Gambon and Eddie Izzard, Victoria & Abdul comes to theaters this fall on September 29, 2017.
