Review: Tower Heist

Score:B-

Director:Brett Ratner

Cast:Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Casey Affleck, Alan Alda, Matthew Broderick

Running Time:104.00

Rated:PG-13

You'd think I'd be stoked to see the names Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy and Brett Ratner all associated with the same movie.  Surprisingly, it doesn't have me laughing as much as I thought.

Tower Hesit centers around Ben Stiller's Josh Kovacs, a building GM for "The Tower", New York City's biggest and most expensive high rise. When one of his residents is arrested for fraud, both Josh and his staff are thrown into a panic when they discover that their pension funds are part of the crime.

Action comedies have become pretty bland as of late.  Tower Heist is no exception to this rule. While it does deliver some in terms of entertainment, it lacks heavily in creativity.

Director Brett Ratner is known for his high powered action scenes.  From the Rush Hour trilogy to X-Men 3, he has proven himself time and time again.  However, with Tower Heist he must balance the action with comedy, a feat he accomplishes surprisingly well.

I think people will be impressed with Tower Heist, I certainly was.  Unlike many other comedies, I was laughing along with  the film rather than at it - a very nice turn of events for a recent movie starring Eddie Murphy.

Unfortunately there were no twists or turns within the story. Tower Heist is a predictable movie with a funny storyline. It isn't anything special, but at a time when comedies are constantly disappointing, this one does its job.
