DIFF Review: Sie Hat Es Verdient

Score:D-

Director:Thomas Stiller

Cast:Renate Delfs, Martin Feifel, Veronica Ferres

Running Time:89 Minutes

Rated:NR

Dealing with the idea of teenegers and their ability to peer
pressure one another into doing unearthly things, Sie Hat Es Verdient had the potential to be a great film.  However, in an effort to make a point,
the film pushed too hard, becoming a bit too ridiculous as it played with my
limit of believability.   This, in addition to the horrid use of
subtitles, had me scratching my head as I attempted to piece together the
dialogue to makes sense of it all "“ a difficult task by anyone's account.

I did find it interesting that the majority of the female
characters had extremely strong personalities and weren't complacent within the
film. The male characters are, to put it nicely, complete pansies.  Really, I wish I were joking. I'm all
for having a strong female character, but at least provide some sort of male balance,
otherwise the situation is hardly realistic.

The nonlinear storytelling method used by the director both
intrigued and annoyed me. I postulated much of the film based on the order of
the storyline, but found it difficult to see how the characters moved from
point A to point B.  It wasn't
until the middle of the story that I got a full grasp on what exactly was going
on, and by that time it was a bit too late to keep my interest.

So long as I didn't focus too intently on the plot or
subtitles, I really enjoyed Sie Hat Es
Verdient.  But let's be honest,
nearly every horrid film would become great if we were to overlook the plot and
dialogue.  In being fair, this film
was quite the disaster.
