Morning
Glory is exactly like it sounds, a sunny
piece of fluff. It had a number of extremely hilarious scenes and funny
one-liners, but overall its content was lacking in all the wrong places.
Although she's good in most any
part, Rachel McAdams allowed herself to be overshadowed by her co-stars Harrison
Ford and Diane Keaton. Even when these veteran actors weren't acting to their
full potential, McAdam's character didn't take advantage of the moment, unable
to showcase much depth as she fell victim to the romantic comedy stereotype.
For that matter, none of the characters had enough screen time to materialize
much of anything, one of a few down points for this highly anticipated date night
movie.
Stripping it down, Morning Glory was generally cute. I got bored in several places, but the film picked
up when necessary. There were enough uplifting moments for me to feel good
about the film, and the light and airy tone was completed with plenty of those
fun montages backed by addictive pop music.
There were times when the scenes
weren't pieced together well, and some voice narratives were added in awkward
places. This happened on too many occasions to go by unnoticed, ultimately
giving the picture a sloppy appearance as it struggled its way to the finish
line.
I felt like Morning Glory had all of the components to create a truly entertaining movie, but the
audience ended up being given something less. Still, even though it didn't use
what it had to its benefit, the film
was just cute enough to work.
