Review: John Carter

Score:A-

Director:Andrew Stanton

Cast:Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, and Mark Strong

Running Time:132 Minutes

Rated:PG-13

John Carter is the protagonist from Edgar Rice Burroughs' The Barsoom novels.  He is also the basis for Disney's
big-budgeted spring spectacle that bears his very name.  While many will question its validity
when compared to other sci-fi greats like Avatar,
Flash Gordon, and Star Wars, rest assured that this one
delivers extraordinary high marks.

While the opening act of the film is crammed full of
information and technical jargon, I was pleased that director Andrew Stanton
made sure that vital pieces were repeated several times to ensure that the
audience picked up on the details.
There is nothing like getting lost within the story of a high powered
sci-fi flick, and John Carter is one
that you simply don't want to find yourself wandering around without a compass.

But for those of you who do, rest assured "”John Carter is a
bona fide badass.  Sure, many will
point to the sweeping hair and elusive muscles, but his greatest moments come
at the hands of Mars' zero gravity feature, allowing our hero to do jumps that
would bring Michael Jordan to his knees.

This
is the original granddaddy of all sci-fi films.  And with the weight stacked on its shoulders and a mountain
of bad press, I can confidently say that John
Carter delivers brilliantly for genre fans.  The visuals are breathtaking and can only be fully realized
by seeing the film at a theater.
They complement a unique story to perfectly, providing a fun-filled
movie experience that I can't wait to do again.  Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a viewing "” you
won't be disappointed.
