A Bag of Hammers started out with a pretty funny premise but then began to lose the laughter for a more serious tone. However, the movie does bring a good message to the audience and really leaves you with a good feeling inside, even if the whole experience wasn't quite what you were originally expecting.
A Bag of Hammers is a comedy about two misfit best friends incapable of growing up, whose direction is tested by an abandoned child, worn beyond his years; together they invent the family they've always needed.
Jason Ritter and Jake Sandvig do a good job in their roles throughout the movie. What really started to let them down, as the film progressed, was the script. What began as a funny comedy suddenly turned into a serious movie, which was somewhat disappointing to me because I was really enjoying the jokes Ritter and Sandvig were blurting out. The movie really could not keep my attention which for me lead to its downfall.
I wouldn't recommend anyone run out and see this film. If you're at a film festival like SXSW then I would say check it out if you have the time. Also if you're into comedy/dramas then I would see the movie but for the most part you should probably wait till the movie hits HBO or Showtime.
