Buffy's back!...Oh, wait"¦she's not Buffy? Well fine, Sarah Michelle Gellar is making her glorious return to television in the CW's new noir style fall series, "˜Ringer'. Gellar will be playing Bridget Cafferty, a recovering drug addict/stripper/prostitute. She will also be playing her identical twin sister, Siobhan Martin, a wealthy New York elite with plenty of her own secrets. The show will follow Bridget as she runs from the mob after witnessing a murder. In search for shelter she calls upon her sister to take her in. During their reunion, Siobhan goes missing and Bridget decides to use her powers of deceit to assume her sister's identity. This proves to be less than fruitful as her sisters' aristocratic life is far less peachy than she thought it would be.
Obviously Sarah Michelle Gellar can't play every character in this show, but I must say the rest of the players are pretty impressive. Nestor Carbonell of "˜Lost' joins the cast as Victor Machado, an FBI agent who tries to convince Bridget to become the star witness in the trial against the mobster that committed strippercide. Hopefully, Carbonell will bring his mysterious raccoon powers to "˜Ringer' to draw us in like he did on "˜Lost'. Quite possibly the biggest name attached to this is Ioan Gruffudd, but I just call him Mr. Fantastic since I can't really pronounce his name. Gruffudd will be playing Andrew Martin, Siobhan's husband. When Bridget first takes on her sister's identity, she believes all is well, only to find out that she and her husband don't have the loving relationship they project at social events. Kristopher Polaha, of the canceled CW series "˜Life Unexpected', also joins the cast as Henry, a married man that Siobhan has been carrying on an affair with. Henry also happens to be obsessively stalking Siobhan/Bridget. Tara Summer, formerly of "˜Boston Legal', will be joining the cast as Gemma Gallagher; Gemma is Siobhan's best friend and confidant as well as Henry's wife. I know, you can't handle much more sex and intrigue, but you must!
As this season plays out with promises of many twists and turns, I'm sure this show will prove to be pretty damn entertaining. Not to mention, it's directed by Richard Shepard who is probably best known for the 2005 film, The Matador. My only reservations come from the fact that this show was bumped down from CBS to the CW. I'm fairly certain it will do extremely well on the younger minded station but all speculation will be lifted tonight, Tuesday, September 13th when "˜Ringer' makes itself the first official pilot broadcast of the 2011 season with its debut at 9/8c.
