Paul Feig’s “Another Simple Favor” to Open SXSW

There's always some excitement when South by Southwest (SXSW) announces its Opening Night Film Premiere.  In years past, the highly coveted spot has featured films like Universal's Us, Paramount's A Quiet Place, and A24's Everything Everywhere All At Once.  Last year, the festival screened Doug Liman's Amazon MGM Studio release Road House.

As attendees start to create their schedules and generate their priority list, the festival has just announced that this year, it will debut Amazon MGM Studios' highly anticipated (and recently somewhat controversial) Another Simple Favor.

The premiere will mark the third time director Paul Feig screens at the festival, following the successful launches of an "in progress" print of Bridesmaids in 2011 and Spy in 2015.  The festival has long embraced the love and celebration of comedy, and excitement is brewing in Austin for the star-studded event!

The film, which sees the return of co-stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively as Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson respectively, follows the ladies as they venture to the island of Capri for Emily's upcoming wedding.  While plot details are still under wraps, fans can expect murder and betrayal to accompany the ladies on their voyage. They will undoubtedly have several twists and turns to keep you guessing until the big ceremony, which should keep fans on the edge of their seat in Austin's historic Paramount Theater.

In addition to our returning leads, the film stars Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Alex Newell, Henry Golding, and Allison Janney.  Though its premiere will be on March 7, Another Simple Favor will debut globally on Amazon Prime on May 1.

About Stephen Davis

I owe this hobby/career to the one and only Stephanie Peterman who, while interning at Fox, told me that I had too many opinions and irrelevant information to keep it all bottled up inside. I survived my first rated R film, Alive, at the ripe age of 8, it took me months to grasp the fact that Julia Roberts actually died at the end of Steel Magnolias, and I might be the only person alive who actually enjoyed Sorority Row…for its comedic value of course. While my friends can drink you under the table, I can outwatch you when it comes iconic, yet horrid 80s films like Adventures in Babysitting and Troop Beverly Hills. I have no shame when it comes to what I like, and if you have a problem with that, then we’ll settle it on the racquetball court. I see too many movies to actually win any film trivia contest, so don’t waste your first pick on me. My friends rent movies from my bookcase shelves, and one day I do plan to start charging. I long to live in LA, where my movie obsession will actually help me fit in, but for now I am content with my home in Austin. I prefer indies to blockbusters, Longhorns to Sooners and Halloween to Friday the 13th. I miss the classics, as well as John Ritter, and I hope to one day sit down and interview the amazing Kate Winslet.
